This silent adaptation of the famous character “Tarzan” created by the writer Edgar Rice Burroughs is directed by the prolific expert in adventure films Herr J. P. McGowan, it is an interesting film for the true admirers of the king of the jungle's exploits and, as for the ones not very interested in the vicissitudes of this gentleman of a faraway land, they will find it a pleasantly undemanding film and enjoy its lovely kitsch style. These are the usual qualities in Herr McGowan films. This German Count, as he has mentioned before, is very fond of these adventure films with their exciting stories and thrilling endings. Herr McGowan reached the height of his style with the remarkable serial “The Hazards Of Helen” (1915).
As excellent longhaired experts about the Tarzan adventures, you must know that, in spite of being raised in the jungle among beasts and savages, Tarzan has aristocratic origins (Lord Greystoke) and as a German proverb says, “it’s never gone for good.” For this reason Tarzan has style and good manners and though he usually goes about in the jungle wearing the regional costume, a loincloth, that doesn’t prevent him from dressing properly when he is in the company of his wife and sister, who are paying him a visit. In fact at dinner, Tarzan wears an elegant smoking jacket and one should note the nightdress Tarzan’s sister wears when she is on the brink of being sacrificed by the natives; her outfit would be more appropriate for a cocktail club in the Friedrichstrasse . This Tarzan has impeccable looks (forgetting momentarily the loincloth) and is clean shaven and well groomed in spite of living daily among wild beasts and savage tribes. One of the tribal leaders, Owaza, is played by Herr Boris Karloff, an actor with a fondness for troublesome characters.
The audience must be magnanimous with “Tarzan And The Golden Lion” and judge it as a entertaining film, simple and unpretentious. Only taken in this way can the film be enjoyed as we follow Tarzan's adventures together with his family in a dangerous jungle full of looters and with a diamond city hidden in the jungle.
And now, if you'll allow me, I must temporarily take my leave because this German Count has granted Tarzan a hearing due to the fact that he is a King, of the jungle…, natürlich.

Esta adaptación silente del célebre personaje de “Tarzán” creado por el escritor Edgar Rice Burroughs y dirigida por el prolífico y experto en cine de aventuras varias Herr J. P. McGowan, es un interesante filme, tanto para los admiradores confesos de las aventuras del rey de la jungla, como para los no demasiado interesados en los avatares de ese gentleman alejado del mundanal ruido, sobretodo por la ausencia de pretensiones del filme y su encantador aire kitsch, características por otro lado del cine de Herr McGowan, especialista, como había comentado con anterioridad éste Conde germánico, en filmes de aventuras con historias y finales trepidantes, siendo el paradigma de su estilo y uno de lo filmes más destacados del director, el serial “The Hazards Of Helen”.
Ustedes, como buenos melenudos expertos en las aventuras de Tarzán, saben que aunque éste se haya criado en la jungla entre bestias y animales, sus origines son aristocráticos ( Lord Greystoke ) y como dice un dicho germánico, “quien tuvo, retuvo”, de ahí su gran estilo y buenas maneras, es por ello que aunque se pasee en taparrabos por la selva, vistiendo así el traje regional, ello no impide que por la noche y en compañía de su mujer y hermana que están de visita en la selva, se vista un elegante smoking ( por no mencionar el vestido que luce la hermana de Tarzan, cuando está a punto de ser sacrificada por los lugareños, más apropiado para un cocktail en un club en la Friedrichstrasse ), además de su impecable aspecto personal ( olvidándose momentáneamente del taparrabos ) afeitado y bien peinado a pesar de vivir entre alimañas y tribus salvajes, siendo una de ellas la comandada por Owaza e interpretado éste por Herr Boris Karloff, actor con especial querencia por personajes algo conflictivos…
Hay que ser magnánimo con “Tarzan And The Golden Lion” y juzgar el filme como simple entretenimiento, sencillo, sin pretensiones o prejuicios, solamente mirando de esa forma dicho filme, se puede disfrutar aceptablemente siguiendo las aventuras de Tarzan con buena parte de su familia en una peligrosa jungla repleta de saqueadores y una ciudad de diamantes al fondo.
Y ahora si me lo permiten les tengo que dejar momentáneamente, pues éste Conde germánico ha concedido una audiencia a Tarzán, debido a su condición de rey, de la selva…, natürlich!.
