Due to the big success of “Den Flyvende Cirkus”(The Flying Circus), Herr Alfred Lind decided to direct a sequel, “Bjornetaemmeren” (The Bear Tamer). This time Herr Alfred also wrote the script, photographed the film and played the principal character of the film… that it to say, the bear tamer.
The circus troupe is bigger than in the last adventure. But don’t worry; Damen Ula, the circus snake charmer is here for good, tough and untamed as always. She quickly forgot her affair with the high-wire artist and thanks to her charms, makes a bear tamer that walked into the circus feel randy.
The two circus lovers decide after a few weeks to marry each other and include the bear and the snake in their happy and savage life. But to be a circus snake charmer is not enough for Damen Ula. So thanks to a ballet master with a peculiar sense of discovering new dancing talent, she decides to become a ballerina and performs the bizarre Indian snake dance at the theatre.
In the variety show she flirts with a moor actor or …even better... with a wealthy man. The fact that she is a married woman doesn’t bother her. However, her husband does not share this opinion. He decides to put an end to this, the irresolute and liberated life of her wife. Thanks to his skill at taming bears, the bear tamer finally will accomplish the difficult task of taming his wife.
“Bjornetaemmeren” is a very interesting sequel that put together melodrama and comedy in good proportions; the circus background of the film is now united with the variety show (a speciality of the Danish Scandinavian-Russian Trading Company). Achieved is a film in where there is a special atmosphere that surrounds these strolling players. It is one of the most remarkable aspects of this film not discounting Dame Ula ( Lili Bech )… a fabulous discovering for this German Count.
And now, if you'll allow me, I must temporarily take my leave because this German Count must convince Damen Ula that it is more elegant to wear a diamond around her neck instead of a snake.Herr Graf Ferdinand Von Galitzien-/-Debido al gran éxito que tuvo “Den Flyvende Cirkus”, Herr Alfred Lind decidió dirigir una secuela del mismo y de título “Bjornetaemmeren”; esta vez Herr Alfred escribe el guión del filme, lo fotografía e interpreta el papel principal de la película… esto es, el domador de osos.
La trouppe circense ha crecido desde la última aventura, pero no teman, Damen Ula, la encantadora de serpientes del circo sigue en el mismo, fuerte e indomable como siempre; la susodicha rápidamente ha olvidado su affair con el funambulista y gracias a sus encantos, consigue que un domador de osos que pasaba cerca del circo, se sienta atraído por la misma.
Los dos amantes circenses deciden a las pocas semanas de conocerse, casarse el uno con el otro, incluyendo el oso y la serpiente, iniciando así una salvaje y feliz nueva vida; pero ser encantadora de serpientes no es suficiente para Damen Ula, por ello y gracias a un director de ballet con una peculiar intuición a la hora de descubrir nuevos talentos danzarines, la susodicha decide convertirse en toda una bailarina, interpretando en un teatro de variedades, la extraña danza de la serpiente india.
En el teatro coqueteará con un actor moro o, incluso mejor… con un hombre riquísimo; el hecho de que ella sea una mujer casada no le preocupa en absoluto, a pesar de que su marido no comparta la misma opinión; será entonces cuando éste último, decida poner fin a la irresoluta y liberada vida de su esposa gracias a sus habilidades como domador de osos, consiguiendo finalmente el susodicho la complicada tarea de domesticar a su esposa.
“Bjornetaemmeren” es una muy interesante secuela en la cual se dosifica a partes iguales el melodrama y la comedia; al ambiente circense del filme se le suma ahora el del teatro de variedades ( la especialidad de los filmes producidos por la “Danish Scandinanvian Trading Company ), consiguiendo una obra en donde se percibe esa especial atmosfera que rodea a los actores ambulantes, siendo este uno de los aspectos más destacados del filme, no olvidándose de Damen Ula ( Lili Bech ), todo un gran descubrimiento para éste Conde germánico.
Y ahora si me lo permiten les tengo que dejar momentáneamente, pues este Conde germánico tiene que convencer a Damen Ula que es mucho más elegante llevar un diamante alrededor de su cuello en vez de una serpiente.Herr Graf Ferdinand Von Galitzien
As this German Count mentioned some time ago, the circus show and all that is around it, was often a setting in the silent cinema, probably because at that time the people could still find at the circus the chance to be astonished, bewildered and surprised. They would see the most incredible and bizarre acts played by people with an amazing capacity to perform the most impossible challenges. And of course let us not forget those small travelling circuses that specialized in showing the strangest creatures of the world: the strong man, the tattooed woman, fortune-tellers, various deformed humans beings or even( in the past century) that most odd and unique of creatures: a decent aristocrat.The silent cinema -at the time a kind of indoor circus itself-found the many incredible and curious stories of circus life provided perfect vehicles for expressive melodramas concerning jealousy, vengeance, or depraved unrequited loves. The early Danish film” Den Flyvende Cirkus”, directed by Herr Alfred Lind, has all those circus characteristics ( it must be noted that this film was produced by the Danish Scandinavian-Russian Trading Company that often had a circus background in their movies ). It tells the story of a high-wire artist who is in love with the mayor's daughter; Thanks to his talents, he saves the life of his beloved in a fire but when he wants to marry her, the mayor firmly rejects such a foolish idea. A poor acrobat as a son-in law? Never! Now if the artist were to be a wealthy man, that would show he's a man of principles,ja wöhl!. But those lovers will have another obstacle to their impossible love: Damen Ula, the circus snake charmer who opposes the relationship because she herself loves passionately the high-wire artist. Damen Ula is the most remarkable character in this film and one that this German Count loves especially because she is the perfect example of those temperamental and strong women of the early silent movies,: She is a remorseless gypsy and besides her snake she also has a uniformed monkey, treats her assistant badly, smokes compulsively and even has a whip that she uses on every appropriate occasion… ah!... a “Negrish” character years before Damen Pola herself. And now, if you'll allow me, I must temporarily take my leave because thisGerman Count has a rendezvous with the bearded woman.Herr Graf Ferdinand Von Galitzien-/-Cómo este Conde germánico mencionó hace cierto tiempo, el espectáculo del circo y todo lo que rodea a éste, ha sido un escenario especial para el cine mudo, pues en aquella época la gente podía encontrar en el circo la oportunidad de ser asombrado, desconcertado, sorprendido; allí se podían contemplar los números más increíbles y bizarros ejecutados por personas con una increíble capacidad para realizar los desafíos más imposibles y por supuesto sin olvidar esos circos ambulantes con espectáculos en donde se podían contemplar las más extrañas criaturas del mundo: el hombre forzudo, la mujer tatuada, los adivinadores de cartas, además de variados y deformes seres, incluso ( aconteció durante el siglo pasado ) la más extraña y única de las criaturas: un aristócrata decente.
El cine mudo, por entonces una especie de circo en si mismo, encontró en las historias curiosas e increíbles de la vida circense, el perfecto vehículo para mostrar melodramas sobre celos, venganzas o depravados amores no correspondidos.
El filme danés “Den Flyvende Cirkus”, dirigido por Herr Alfred Lind, reúne todas esas características ( hay que destacar que el filme fue producido por la “Danish Scandinavian-Russian Trading Company”, compañía que habitualmente producía filmes con tramas circenses en sus historias ).
En dicho filme se narra la historia de un funambulista que se enamora de la hija del alcalde; gracias a su talento en el alambre, salva la vida de su amada durante un incendio pero cuando pretende casarse con ella, el alcalde rotundamente se opone a tan alocada idea; ¿un acróbata pobre como yerno?... ¡jamás!... de todas formas si el artista se convierte en un hombre rico, entonces ello mostraría que es un hombre de fuertes principios, ja wöhl!; pero esos amantes tendrán otro obstáculo en su amor imposible: Damen Ula, la encantadora de serpientes del circo, que se opone también tajantemente a dicha relación porque ella ama apasionadamente al funambulista.
Damen Ula es el personaje más destacable de este filme y que éste Conde germánico ama especialmente, pues es el perfecto ejemplo de esas mujeres temperamentales tan características de los filmes pioneros silentes: una gitana sin remordimientos que además de poseer una serpiente también tiene un mono uniformado, trata a su asistente despóticamente, fuma compulsivamente e incluso tiene un látigo que usa en las ocasiones más apropiadas… ¡ah!... un personaje “à la Negrish”, años antes de la aparición de Damen Pola en persona.
