Herr Karl Valentin was one of the most remarkable comedians of the early days of cinema in Germany ( and believe this German Count, those days were not a very funny ones even for the aristocracy…) not to mention his development in an important talkie career. His film “Der Neue Schreibtisch” is probably one of the most popular and successful short films directed by this funny German director during those early Teutonic days.
This kleine movie is a perfect example of the characteristics of Herr Valentin’s films and career ( focused with visual gags in his silent films as opposed to more oral in the talkie ones ). Herr Valentin plays those characters he cares about so much (low class people, clerks, retailers… that is to say, that kind of funny people that have nothing in common with the serious aristocracy… ). They often have to deal with the simple problems such as acquiring a new desk ( ordinary furniture that have nothing in common either with the distinguished aristocratic bureaus ).
His simple, short, funny and effective films are the same way (in the techniques of Herr Valentin, he focused his efforts with gags filmed almost in a long shot). His only and uncomplicated intention - to making the audience laugh, included Germans.
And now, if you'll allow me, I must temporarily take my leave because this German Count must remove his decadent bureau for a bold rococo one.

Herr Karl Valentin fue uno de los más destacados e importantes cómicos de principios del cinematógrafo en Germania ( y crean a éste Conde germánico cuando asevera dichas afirmaciones pues esos días no eran demasiado divertidos ni siquiera para la aristocracia… ) sin olvidarse tampoco de su posterior e igualmente importante etapa sonora, siendo su filme “Der Neue Schreibtisch” probablemente uno de sus más populares y exitosos cortometrajes, una crucial obra dirigida por éste curioso director germánico durante esos días teutónicos.
Esta kleine película es un perfecto ejemplo de las características del cine de Herr Valentin ( centrado principalmente durante su carrera silente en el desarrollo de los gags visuales y en su carrera sonora en secuencias más orales ); Herr Valentin interpreta personajes especialmente queridos por él, tales como gente de clase humilde, empleados, dependientes… esto es, esa clase de gente tan rara y que nada tienen que ver con las clases aristocráticas; dichos personajes a menudo tendrán que vérselas con ordinarios problemas tales como la compra de un escritorio nuevo ( mobiliario ordinario éste que tampoco tiene nada que ver con los distinguidos escritorios aristocráticos ).
Sus sencillos, cortos y efectivos cortometrajes son realizados en consecuencia, usando la técnica existente de la época para filmar dichas obras mediante planos largos, siendo su única y primordial intención, la de conseguir hacer reír al público de la sala, germanos incluidos.
Y ahora si me lo permiten les tengo que dejar momentáneamente, pues este Conde germánico tiene que cambiar sus decadentes escritorios por otros más atrevidos y rococós.
