Herr Humberto Mauro was one of the most important Brazilian silent film pioneers and by extension due to the mastery and excellent film technique shown in his films, an unquestionable and important reference point of the Latin American silent era.
“Sangue Mineiro” shows those technical virtues in a remarkable way; it is an elegant oeuvre that depicts the story of a millionaire’s adoptive daughter that tries to commit suicide due to her unfaithful lover. She will be saved by two boys, and with the boy’s family, she begins to live.
The film it’s impregnated with an elegant classicism in where the troubles of the heart of the main characters are immersed in the environment (nature is a decisive character). There are stylistic reminiscences, probably due to the admiration and influence that the Brazilian director felt for classic Amerikan adventures films … especially directors like Herr Vidor und Herr Griffith. Fortunately Herr Mauro transferred and adapted those influences in his own, proper way. He emphasizes the dramatic love matters and Cataguases sceneries in an original way and as this German Count said before, with a superb mastery of technique. It is a powerful use of film language with beautiful camera movements, flashbacks and ingenious film continuity. All of this is with the help of another important Brazilian cinematography director: Herr Edgar ( obviously… ) Brazil.
As many longhaired probably could think due to the nationality of “Sangue Mineiro”, is not a soap-opera but a classic opera, an absolutely modern film, in where love matters are treated in a classic, elegant and nonconformist way.
And now, if you'll allow me, I must temporarily take my leave because this German Count must protect himself from the dangerous Brazilian sun, which puts his aristocratic pale skin at risk.

Herr Humberto Mauro fue uno de los más importantes pioneros silentes del cinema brasileño y por extensión, debido sobretodo a su maestría y dominio de las técnicas cinematográficas de la época, un incuestionable e importante punto de referencia del cine silente latinoamericano.
“Sangue Mineiro” muestra todas esas virtudes técnicas anteriormente citadas de forma realmente sorprendente, una elegante obra en la cual se narra la historia de la hija adoptiva de un millonario que se intenta suicidar al enterarse de los devaneos de su infiel amante; será rescatada ésta de dichas intenciones suicidas por dos jóvenes y será gracias a ellos cuando nuestra heroína comenzará a vivir.
El filme está impregnado de un elegante clasicismo en donde los problemas amorosos de sus protagonistas se entremezclan con la naturaleza que los rodea, siendo ésta uno de los personajes más importante del filme; se aprecian reminiscencias estilísticas de ciertos filmes clásicos de aventuras, quizás por la gran admiración que sentía el director brasileño por dicho género y con especial predilección por autores como Herr Griffith o Herr Vidor.
Afortunadamente Herr Mauro transfiere y adapta esas influencias a un estilo propio, enfatizando los dramáticos asuntos amorosos en los escenarios naturales de Cataguases, todo ello de una forma original y como éste Conde germánico mencionaba recientemente, con una ejemplar maestría en cuestiones técnicas, un poderoso uso del lenguaje cinematográfico en el cual se pueden apreciar bellos movimientos de la cámara, flashbacks y una ingeniosa continuidad, todo ello con la ayuda en la fotografía de otro importante referente pionero brasileño, Herr Edgar ( obviamente… ) Brazil.
Quizás muchos melenudos puedan pensar que debido a la nacionalidad de “Sangue Mineiro” estemos ante un folletín, todo lo contrario, se trata de una obra clásica, absolutamente moderna, en donde los asuntos del corazón están tratados de una forma elegante e inconformista.
Y ahora si me lo permiten les tengo que dejar momentáneamente, pues este Conde germánico tiene que protegerse del peligroso sol brasileño que puede llegar a poner en peligro su aristocrática palidez.
